A Trinamool Congress member has been hacked to death at Bhagawanpur in Bhangar area of South 24 Parganas district, police said today.
The Trinamool Congress member, Amjad Ali (50), was attacked with sharp weapons by five-six persons when he was returning home from his party office last
evening.
Ali died on way to the hospital.
Union minister of state for shipping Mukul Roy, zilla sabhapati Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay and local MLA Aramul Islam today went to the spot and visited the local police station and Ali's residence to offer condolence to his family members.
Criticising the CPI(M) for "unleashing politics of killing and violence", Roy appealed to his party workers "not to be provoked by CPI(M)'s tactics".
