They already have the numbers but now the two regional heavyweights – Trinamool Congress and the AIADMK – want a room in Parliament House too.

It, however, could be a tough call for the Lok Sabha Secretariat as the AIADMK — with 47 MPs — already enjoys a small room in the complex but TMC with a total of 46 MPs is in need of a room in Parliament.

There is no room available on the ground floor and the secretariat is considering asking the Janata Dal (United), whose strength in the lower house has reduced to two, to vacate its office.

“The LS secretariat will take care of this. But parties now in opposition should realise that their number has shrunk and those who have more MPs would need bigger rooms.

They cannot just say that since they have held a room for years they will not vacate,” parliamentary affairs minister M Venkaiah Naidu said.

TMC leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Mukul Roy and Abhishek Banerjee had met LS speaker Sumitra Mahajan last Friday. “We have been demanding a room since 2009. Bandyopadhyay said.
