Still to come out of the Muzaffarnagar riots shock, the cops are taking the task of maintaining law and order during the festivals as a major challenge.

Along with sounding alert in the sensitive districts, the state police has decided to deploy extra police force, including Central Paramilitary Force (CPMF), in the sensitive areas. It has also urged the central government to start the movement of the CPMF to poll-bound states after the festival was over.

IG (law and order) RK Vishwakarma on Thursday said Vijay Dashami would be celebrated on October 14 and Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid) on October 16.

The state government has directed the superintendent of police of all the districts to step up the vigil and to take required measures to maintain law and order.

Special precautions will be taken in the East UP districts such as Azamgarh, Faizabad, Mau and Jaunpur.

He said necessary instruction to the district police officials has been given by principal secretary, home and the DGP.

The superintendents of police have been directed to resolve all the disputes in respective areas on the basis of local intelligence unit (LIU) report.

The officers have been told to take precaution on the installation of the statue at new spot, change of route of the procession, playing of music system, eve-teasing, extortion, burning of Ravana effigy and load shedding.

“The officers have been told to keep watch on the illegal slaughter of the animals as well,” Vishwakarma said.

He said along with the companies of CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SSB and PAC, the civil police would be deployed in the sensitive areas. The state police has also deployed anti-bomb squad, anti-sabotage squad and anti-riot equipment for peaceful celebration of the festival.
