Man held for raping woman on pretext of marriage

A man was arrested on Monday on a charge of raping a woman for past two years on the pretext of marrying her in Jind district, the police have said.

The victim, 27, lodged a complaint against accused Deedar Singh, 23, after she came to know that he had married another woman about 15 days ago, they said.

She alleged that Singh, whom she knew for the past two years, had raped her on a number of occasions on the pretext of marriage. A case has been registered in this regard, the police added.
