A person in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh was shot dead allegedly by Maoists after they suspected him of being a police informer, police said on Monday.
The victim, Bablu Das, was shot dead by rebels at his house in Todhur village under Chhote Bethiya police station limits last night, Kanker Superintendent of Police M L Kotwani told PTI.
According to eyewitnesses, about 10 armed Naxals stormed into his house in the village, located around 300 km away from here last night and pumped bullets into him leaving him dead on the spot, he said.
Naxals had accused Das of working as a police informer prior to his murder, the SP said.
Soon after receiving the information, a police team rushed to the spot and the body was brought to Bande for autopsy, the official said, adding that a search has been launched in the forests to nab assailants.
On June 25, a deputy sarpanch identified as Anganpalli Lachhaiya was killed by naxals in Bijapur district after branding him as a police informer.
