Library officials in the Institute of Management Studies and Research (IMSAR) at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) here have caught a woman professor while stealing a book.

Sources in the library said that at first, the professor, whose name is being withheld, refused to admit to stealing. When she was asked to undergo frisking, she tried to wriggle out of the situation by saying that she had to go for a lecture. But library officials insisted. On being frisked by women officials of the library, the book was found from inside her clothes.

Sources in the library said the incident occurred a fortnight ago. The act was caught on the close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras. They said the professor was under watch for quite some as the officials suspected that she had stolen 20 to 25 books from the library.

Officiating librarian Satish Malik, who did not divulge the professor's name, said the matter was in his knowledge and the head of the department concerned had been asked to take action against her.

IMSAR head Neelam Jain said a notice had been served on the professor to explain her stand. On action against the professor, Jain said: "Once she explains her stand on the issue, further action will be taken."
