Militants behead policeman

Militants beheaded a policeman when he and his wife had gone to a nearby forest for collecting firewood at Handwara on Saturday.

As per a police statement, head constable Sonaullah Zargar, son of Abdul Gani and a resident of Hardoona, Vilgam, had gone to a nearby forest area of Hangalpora along with his wife to collect firewood. "Zargar was on leave. He had gone to the forest with his wife when the couple was intercepted by some militants," said a police spokesman.

Zargar was posted at the CID headquarters, Srinagar.

Police said Zargar was killed by the militants in a gruesome manner by beheading.

"Police have reached the spot and cordoned off the area. The body was handed over to his relatives for last rites," read the police statement.

The Handwara police have started investigations.

Besides his wife, Zargar is survived by four children, including a girl.
