Moderate Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Sunday welcomed Egypt’s former President Hosni Mubarak’s decision to step down from the country’s top post and asked people of Kashmir to exhibit same perseverance, steadfastness and discipline to reach its goal.

"If we continue our struggle peacefully and exhibit discipline and unity, with Allah’s grace, we too will meet our goal. We need to follow and learn from Egypt," said the Mirwaiz in a statement.

Egypt's President stepped down two days ago when a wave of people's protests forced him to leave the post and fly to another country.

The Mirwaiz called upon ruling and opposition parties of India to involve all parties to the Kashmir dispute -- India, Pakistan and Kashmiris -- for a durable, dignified and acceptable solution. “Time has come for serious, meaningful and result oriented measures to be taken towards resolving the Kashmir dispute,” said the Mirwaiz.

The Mirwaiz said the Egyptians’ peaceful protests and role of the security forces were exemplary and worth a praise. "We too resorted to peaceful struggle for the past three years to press for our genuine and just demands, but were fired upon. And extreme suppression was resorted to by the state to muzzle the voice raised by the people," alleged the Mirwaiz.

He said history is witness that wherever people raised their voice against tyranny, occupation and monarchy they might have been suppressed for some time with force, but in the long run such forces had to bow before people’s might.
