Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been invited by Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to attend the fourth summit of Islamic leaders to be held in Egypt on February 6, a spokesman of Hurriyat said on Thursday.
The OIC Islamic leader’s summit, which is held after a gap of every four years, would discuss the political and regional challenges faced by the Muslims, the spokesman said in a statement.
“It would also discuss the means and ways to address those issues in an effective manner,” the statement sated.
The spokesman further said that apart from discussing the “burning issues of Syria and Afghanistan, the dispute of Jammu and Kashmir” would also be debated and discussed from all angles.
Since APHC has an observer’s status in OIC, Mirwaiz who is APHC Chairman has taken up the Kashmir issue in OIC summits many times.
The spokesman said that Mirwaiz has discussed Kashmir dispute in its proper historical context and impressed upon the cooperation to play its part to solve the long pending dispute.
“As Kashmir has been a constant source of tension between the two nuclear armed countries, a main cause of political instability in south Asia, the Islamic conference provides an important platform to APHC to discuss and stress for the resolution of Kashmir dispute,” the Hurriyat statement said.
