Missionary school principal held for rape bid, molestation

The principal of a missionary school was arrested on Wednesday for trying to rape four minor students in Chhattisgarh's Sarguja district.

The Chhattisgarh police arrested headmaster Father Vincent Toppo (40) of Asha Deep school at Ambikapur about 330 km north of Raipur on charges of molestation, attempt to rape and outraging the modesty of girl students.

Toppo was sent to judicial remand for 15 days. The district collector R Prasanna told HT that four girl students had complained that Toppo had been molesting them for a few days.

Clashes in South 24-Parganas
Kolkata: Large-scale violence erupted in South 24-Parganas district following the recovery of a cleric’s dead body in Canning, around 40 km south of Kolkata, on Tuesday.

Maulana Ruhul Kuddus was shot dead on Monday night when he was returning from a religious congregation in Kultali.

As the news spread on Tuesday morning, irate locals burnt as many as 200 houses and blocked trains. Forty-six people were held  till Wednesday evening. Magrahat West MLA and minister of state for minority affairs Giasuddin Mollah blamed the opposition CPM and Congress for fanning trouble prior to the panchayat polls.
 
Six booked in Honour killing case
Rohtak: In a suspected case of honor killing, police have booked six persons for killing a 19-year-old boy at Sampla town in Rohtak district on Wednesday. Six SUV borne assailants shot Rohit Kumar from point blank range when he was standing at a chowk in Sampla town around 11am. A case of murder has been registered against one Pappu, whose daughter was allegedly kidnapped and raped by Kumar, said the police.
