Mafia-turned MLA Dhananjay Singh's wife was reportedly found hanging at his Gomti Nagar residence on Wednesday morning. The reason behind the woman taking the extreme step was yet to be known as no suicide note was recovered from the place.
The MLA was away in Delhi since September 1. He arrived here in the evening. Dhananjay was married to Meenu on December 12, 2006.
SSP Akhil Kumar said prima facie it appeared to be a case of suicide. However, the police are still waiting for the post-mortem examination report, the SSP said. They would enquire the MLA if he was aware about any possible reason behind his wife's suicide, Akhil Kumar said.
SP (trans-Gomti) Umesh Kumar Singh said initially they were suspicious behind cause of death as the scarf, which was told to be used for hanging was missing from the spot. It was found later in the evening from the room. Remains of the torn scarf was found wrapped around the fan in the room.
Singh further said ligature mark around deceased's neck corroborated the hanging. It appeared that the woman had committed suicide sometime during night only.
The incident came to light around 9.30 am when MLA's brother-in-law Kumar Viplav went upstairs to call his sister Meenu. He found the doors bolted from inside. Viplav sensed trouble as he knocked the doors several times and did not get any response.
He forced open the doors to find Meenu's body lying partly on bed and the floor. Viplav raised an alarm drawing attention of Dhananjay's sister Gautami, her mother-in-law and two servants Sanjay and Chhotu.
They all ran upstairs to see that Viplav had closed the doors. He opened the doors after few minutes. They took the body to the Mayo Hospital where the doctors confirmed the death. The police were informed later.
When enquired Viplav said his sister was seen upset when she was having dinner on Tuesday night. She went to her room upstairs late in the night. He had gone to her room when she did not come downstairs even after late in the morning.
Dhananjay Singh, an independent MLA from Rari, Jaunpur had hired the Gomti Nagar house where his wife, her brother and MLA's two minor nephews were staying for past several months.
Meenu belonged to Rajapur locality in Mainpura of Patna.
