Caretaker Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi cast his vote for the crucial Assembly polls in Sarkhej constituency soon after the polling began on Thursday  morning.

Modi himself is contesting from Maninagar constituency of the city.

He cast his vote at a booth at Navchetan primary school in Sarkhej.

Flashing the victory sign,  Modi told reporters that the people of the state would give a befitting reply to those who had launched a malicious campaign to defame Gujarat.

Amid chants of  Jai Sri Ram  and  Bharatmata ki jai  from his supporters,  he said people would once again show that Gujarat was an epitome of goodwill,  brotherhood and peace.
"I believe in the opinion of the people," he said when asked about his views on various poll surveys which have predicted contrasting outcome.
