The who’s who of the Union cabinet and BJP’s top echelons descended on Ahmedabad on Sunday evening to attend the engagement ceremony of Jay Shah, son of newly-anointed BJP president Amit Shah.
The event was held at the YMCA Club on SG Highway in the city.
Among those who made it to the high-voltage event were BJP patriarch LK Advani and over a dozen members of the Narendra Modi cabinet including home minister Rajnath Singh, finance and defence minister Arun Jaitley, Uma Bharti, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Dharmendra Pradhan, Prakash Javdekar, VK Singh, Ananth Kumar, Smriti Irani, Piyush Goyal, Venkaiah Naidu, Kalraj Mishra and others.

The Prime Minister could not attend the ceremony as he flew to Brazil earlier ijn the day to attend the Brics summit starting July 15 .
Also in attendance were top BJP functionaries, Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel and her cabinet and corporate bigwigs like Parimal Nathwani of RIL, Gautam Adani, Sudhir Mehta of Torrent group and textiles baron Sanjay Lalbhai of Arvind group.
Ahmedabad police made elaborate security arrangements for safe passage of the VIPs from the airport to the venue with deployment of over 1,000 cops.
BJP president Amit Shah’s only son Jay got engaged to his college classmate Rishita Patel. Jay is the joint secretary of Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) headed by his father.
On July 8, Amit Shah, 50, was appointed as the party president replacing Rajnath Singh, who resigned after being inducted into the Modi cabinet.
Shah was in charge of politically crucial Uttar Pradesh where the BJP won 73 of the 80 parliamentary seats, catapulting the saffron party to form the government at the Centre.
