Leaving behind the campaign bitterness during which BJP’s Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi had charged former PM Rajiv Gandhi of practising “politics of anger”, Modi put on a conciliatory tone on Wednesday and paid tribute to the ex-PM on his death anniversary.

“My homage to former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary,” Modi tweeted on Wednesday.

Rajiv Gandhi’s daughter, Priyanka had traded barbs with Modi during the campaign after the latter accused the former PM of “arrogance” and practising the “politics of anger.”

Priyanka had hit back at Modi for insulting her “martyred” father and accused the BJP leader of indulging in “neech rajniti (low level politics).
BJP had retaliated seeking her apology for making such casteist remarks.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor welcomed the “conciliatory and inclusive statements” of Modi. “I am impressed by Narendra Modi’s conciliatory and inclusive statements. We must ensure, he lives upto them and works for the benefit of all Indians,” Tharoor, who was re-elected for the second time from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha, tweeted.
