Narendra Modi missed his first Ifter after becoming the Prime Minister on Monday. President Pranab Mukherjee hosted an Iftar at Rashtrapati Bhawan where the PM and other VVIPs were invited.
But as Modi was in Mumbai he could not come for the Iftar. The PM, however, is generally not seen in attending Iftar parties.
Even as Modi was away, the government was represented by home minister Rajnath Singh and minority affairs minister Najma Heptullah.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were present during the Iftar. Food minister Ramvilas Paswan came with his son Chirag while the CPI(M) was represented by politburo member Sitaram Yechury and its Lok Sabha deputy leader Md. Salim.
According to an insider, Gandhi and Singh freely interacted with leaders of different political parties.
