Welcome rain lashed the Capital on Wednesday bringing relief from the hot and humid conditions. However, monsoon might still be a day away.

According to the Met department, it was a pre-monsoon shower. “The winds were no doubt like monsoon ones and they were also flowing from the Bay of Bengal. However, it is not monsoon, which might take another 24 hours to arrive,” a Met official.

The city received 4mm rainfall between 8.30am and 5.30pm and the maximum temperature as a result was recorded at 36.6 degrees, which is normal for this part of the season. The minimum was at 25.5, which is two degrees below normal. The humidity, however, fluctuated between 60 and 85 per cent.

However, the bane of monsoon came with waterlogging being reported from some areas of the city. Places like Aurobindo Marg, Ber Sarai, Rohini, Anand Parbat, Shadipur, Mori Gate, Nigambodh Ghat, Wazirpur Depot, Kamla Nagar and other “vulnerable spots” witnessed waterlogging causing traffic snarls.

On Thursday, too, a spell of pre-monsoon might greet Delhiites. “There will be partly cloudy sky with the possibility of rain and thundershowers in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 36 and 26 degrees,” the official said.
