Sanjay Dutt surrenders before TADA court in Mumbai

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt on Thursday surrendered before the designated TADA court in Mumbai to serve his three-and-a-half year sentence in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blast case. Accompanied by his wife Manyata and film maker Mahesh Bhatt, the actor arrived at the court sporting a red 'tilak' on his forehead.

Slapped, wept and now Sreesanth gets caught!

Right-arm medium pacer Sreesanth, 30, has been courting controversies ever since he joined the Indian side. The latest one was the 2008 incident when Harbhajan Singh slapped him after his Mumbai Indians team lost to Sreesanth’s Kings XI Punjab side at the spinner’s homeground, Mohali. He has sparingly played in the Indian Twenty20 league this season. Of the 15 matches played by Rajasthan Royals, he has figured only in seven. He has played 27 Tests and 53 ODIs but has not been selected for India since the 2011 tour of England.

Alert sounded in Assam for cyclone Mahasen

An alert has been sounded across Assam as cyclone Mahasen is likely to hit the north-eastern states on Thursday night, officials said today. All boats and ferry services on Brahmaputra have been closed for the next three days and fishermen have been directed not to venture out to the river.

Amitabh Bachchan opens Cannes Film Festival 2013

On a miserable wind-swept, rain-battered Wednesday evening, the Cannes Film Festival’s 66th edition was declared open by Amitabh Bachchan and Leonardo DiCaprio. While Bachchan had a cameo in the Festival’s inaugural movie, Baz Luhrmann’s 1920s American story, The Great Gatsby, DiCaprio plays the title character. In an important way, Bachchan’s pivotal role on the stage seemed befitting of Cannes’ celebration of Indian cinema’s 100 years.
