Movie of scion of HP's royal family to be screened at Cannes

Madhavi Singh, 27, who hails from the Sirmaur Royal family, is playing the role of a police officer in Anurag Kashyap's "Ugly", which has been selected to be screened at the Cannes film festival in France.

Madhavi Singh is the niece of former MLA and royal family member Ajay Bahadur Singh, patron of Sirmaur king Lakshya Raj.

The movie is yet to be released in India. Though the artist had also played a role in film "Budda Mar Gaya" a few years ago, this movie could act as a breakthrough in her career.

She is also playing a role in TV serial "Yeh Hai India Meri Jaan" being telecast on DD news every Sunday.

The movie is a co-production of Phantom and DAR motion pictures. The actor took training from Film and TV Institute, Pune, five years ago.

Madhavi Singh, who is in France could not be contacted, but her mother Kunjana Singh said the film was being reviewed at the Cannes film festival and added that her daughter would return to India on May 22.
The movie also stars Tejaswini Kolhapure, Ronit Roy, Vinit Kumar Singh, Vipin Sharma and TV actor Rahul Bhatt in lead roles.

"Ugly" revolves around an alcoholic who reunites with her former husband when their child is kidnapped, said Kunjana Singh. She said, "Madhavi had a passion for acting since she was in school and she always wanted to become an actor." Her brother Sangram Singh is a renowned cricketer of the state.
