Mumbai's Joint Police Commissioner Sridhar Vagal, arrested in connection with the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam, will be produced before a special court for remand on Saturday.
Vagal, the most senior Maharashtra police official arrested for his alleged role in shielding the scam's prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi, was brought to Pune on Friday night by the Special Investigating Team (SIT).
He was summoned to the SIT office on Friday in Worli, interrogated for two hours and then placed under arrest. He is the sixth police official to be a arrested in the scam.
The other policemen arrested so far include Assistant Commissioner of Police Gokul Patil, Inspector Vashist Andhale and Police Sub Inspector Pratap Kakade of Nalasopara police station (Thane rural).
Vagal's arrest comes after the Mumbai High Court appointed S Puri to head the SIT with the rank of Director General of Police.
