An 18-year-old girl was allegedly raped repeatedly by a married man after being threatened in Kalyan area of the district, police said on Sunday.

According to the complaint lodged by the girl last evening, the accused, identified as Mangesh Mhetre, aged around 25 years who works at a cloth shop in the locality, forcibly raped her daily between May 18 and June 6 when she was alone at her home at Vitthalwadi in Kalyan, Kolshewadi police station sub-inspector V K Hirey said.

While the victim's mother had gone to her native place following a death in her family, the accused took advantage of the girl being alone at home and raped her while threatening that he would kill her mother if she resisted his move, Hirey said quoting the girl's complaint.

An offence has been registered against the accused under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

A manhunt has been launched to nab the absconding accused, police said.
