The DNA samples of the 13 bone extracts recovered from a site at Nerul have matched with those of the son and husband of Sandhya Singh, 50, thus confirming that the remains are hers, said the police.

Singh, the sister of former yesteryear actors Vijeta and Sulakshana Pandit and musicians Jatin-Lalit, went missing on December 13.

The remains were spotted by a British birdwatcher at Nerul in the last week of January.

Suresh Vedak, senior inspector, NRI police station, said, “The forensic science laboratory at Kalina has confirmed that the DNA samples have matched with those of Singh’s son and siblings.”

Consequently, the police station will now formally register a murder case, with the name of the deceased as Sandhya Singh.

Singh’s family members had identified several items such as the wig found near the remains as that of Singh’s.

Though the police were investigating it as a murder case, they were awaiting an official confirmation from the laboratory.

The skeletal remains, a rudraksh, a cardboard containing bloodstains and two samples of soil were sent to the laboratory.

While one soil sample was from the spot where the remains were found, the other was taken from some distance.

“As we have not been informed about the case being transferred to the Mumbai crime branch as yet, we are investigating the matter,” said Vedak.
