While last year four students in the state topped the engineering entrance with a score of 199, this year only one had the privilege of doing so. Also, this year, only one student scored 198 as compared to 13 students who scored that much last year.

With fewer high scorers, students are hoping that the cut off marks will drop and they will make it to coveted colleges in the state. Reputed colleges such as VJTI in Mumbai and College of Engineering in Pune accept students with scores above 190.

“The papers were tougher and longer this year. So, many could not complete the exam,” said Kavita Rege, principal of Sathaye College. Of the 2,54,208 engineering aspirants, 89,539 were girls. Girls did not perform too well in the test with only 10 girls in the top 100.

The admission process will begin on June 21 and the first list should be out by June 30. There are 309 engineering colleges in the state with an intake capacity of 1.14 lakh students. This year admissions to autonomous colleges — College of Engineering, Pune; Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Mumbai; Shri Guru Gobind Sinhji Institute of Engineering and Technology, Nanded; and Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli —will be conducted online with other engineering colleges.

While there will be one common preference form for all colleges, the merit lists for autonomous colleges will be declared separately.  Admission to ICT College in Mumbai will be based on CET scores but the college has its individual procedure this year.
