Nationalist Congress Party chief and union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar has slammed his own United Progressive Alliance (UPA) coalition government over the ‘gold hunt’ excavation launched in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh.

Pawar wrote that the pursuit was unfortunate and will make the entire country pay a heavy price for the madness.

While expressing his views on the party’s newly relaunched social media platform, Pawar said that the central government should not become party to such acts of gross stupidity as it sends out a wrong message to the people.

Adding that the act gives undue credence to so-called godmen, Pawar said that those in office should not lose their sense of proportion.

Pawar wrote that those in power should first follow the principle of hard work as there can be no shortcuts to wealth and prosperity.

Referring to the ongoing excavation, undertaken by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI), to unearth a treasure trove of 1,000 tonne of gold, Pawar said that the Unnao incident has thrown up several peculiar things.

“The official statement says that the excavation has been prompted, not by a sadhu’s dream, but by the findings of a team of geologists. However, the sadhu helped the experts from ASI draw up the boundaries of the fort while the excavation was flagged off with great fanfare. What are we up to? Isn’t this sheer madness?”

Also slamming glorified and self-styled godmen, Pawar wrote that they have been fooling people in the name of religion and god.

The large scale following of these spiritual gurus by gullible people has helped them gain undue popularity.
