As one star exits, another hopes to enter.

In Mumbai’s North-West Lok Sabha constituency, part of which was represented by actor Govinda, top Bhojpuri actor Nagma has asked the Congress high command to consider her candidature.

The actress, who did not have an impressive Bollywood stint, is popular among Bhojpuri-speaking north Indians who form a huge chunk of this constituency.

The Congress desperately needs a charismatic personality here to blur out the wrath incurred by its current Member of Parliament Govinda who has been accused of playing truant from Parliamentary sessions to prop up his sagging film career.

Nagma met Maharashtra screening committee chief Mallikarjun Kharage in New Delhi on Wednesday in the presence of other members — Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, Mumbai Congress President Kripashankar Singh and Maharashtra Congress chief Manikrao Thakare.

A committee member told Hindustan Times on condition of anonymity that Nagma explained how she could win the seat. “Nothing is decided yet. We will discuss all possibilities with the high command,” the member said.
