Police on Thursday arrested a 72-year-old retired scientist in Nagpur for allegedly sexually abusing his three adopted minor daughters.

Maqsood Ansari, a retired scientist of National Environmental Engineering Research Institution (NEERI), was booked on the basis of complaint filed by his eldest adopted daughter who is 16 years.

Police said he married thrice but did not father a child. Ansari adopted three girls, who are 6, 11 and 16 now, at different periods.

Ansari first forced himself on the eldest in 2008 when she was a class I student and continued raping her. He also tried to molest the younger ones.

The girls were too young to understand their father’s behaviour. The eldest started suspecting a foul play as she grew up. She told her ordeal to her friend, who in turn passed this information to her mother. The information was then passed to Dhantoli police. Ansari has been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
