Municipal council (MC) has served a notice to the management of the Adarsh Vidya Niketan Senior Secondary School (AVN) in Naya Bazaar to cease construction of the school building after the local body received a complaint that norms were being flouted in the process.

Sources said Congress councillor Kanwar Ambrish Singh had raised the issue in the general house meeting of the MC on Thursday after Naya Bazaar resident Sharad Bansal had lodged a complaint with the MC executive officer in this regard.

In his complaint, Bansal alleged that the building, located in a residential area, was constructed on a weak foundation.

Accusing the management of overlooking the security of the nearly 1,400 students in the school, he alleged that the entrance and exit were 'congested', preventing rapid escape of a large number of students in case of a calamity.

While the MC said that four-storey buildings, including parking, were generally allowed, executive officer SS Negi said a junior officer had been asked to submit a technical report at the earliest.
