Nainital: 14 killed as marriage bus falls into gorge

In a tragic accident, a bus carrying a baraat fell into a gorge in Nainital district in Uttarakhand on Sunday afternoon killing around 14 persons, while it was on its return journey towards the home of the groom. The injured have been  taken to the hospital for treatment. 13 of the baaratis died on the spot while one was declared dead at the hospital in Kaladhungi.

According to police, the bus was said to be carrying around 50 baraatis and the rest of the injured are being treated at the hospital. Rescue teams reached the site immediately and helped in taking away the victims to the hospitals.

According to sources, the baraat had come to Bara Patthar, Nainital from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh and was returning after the ceremony. While returning to Amroha, the bus fell at a gorge almost 3 kilometre before Kaladhungi. The bride and the bridegroom who were in another vehicle are safe.

Circle officer Nainital Harish Kumar told HT that the bus was returning back to Amroha and the accident happened on the way. "Presently we are providing medical help to the victims and would ascertain the cause of the accident later", said the officer.
