The CPI(M)'s attempt to recover lost land at Nandigram claimed another life on Sunday. Both the CPI(M) and Trinamool Congress claimed that the victim was their supporter.

Tekhali bazaar near Bhangabera turned a battlefield on Sunday when CPI (M) supporters marched from Khejuri to make another attempt to enter Nandigram at 12 noon.

Trinamool leaders alleged that the CPI(M) supporters were armed with guns and other weapons. The CPI(M), admitting this allegation, asked if anybody had fought any battle without weapons.

"They came marching towards Nandigram firing bullets relentlessly. The people of Nandigram were stunned with this sudden attack. Parbati Mitra (75), a daily wage earner, was already dead. The CPI(M) goons also fired at an innocent child Mona Mondal (9), who was on the rooftop," Subhendu Adhikari, the local Trinamool MLA, alleged.

Mitra lost her life immediately as six bullets hit her. Trinamool alleged more that the CPI (M) goons kidnapped five supporters of Bhumi Uchchhed Pratirodh Committee and ransacked local shops.

The CPI (M) leaders said that it was Trinamool supporters who killed Mitra. "Trinamool supporters have occupied the Nandigram area for a year. Over 3,000 of our supporters have been compelled to leave their homes," Ashoke Guria, a district committee member of the CPI (M), told HT.
