A 25-year-old naval cadet died on Thursday after falling off a building at the Indian Naval Academy in north Kerala’s Ezhimala on Wednesday evening.
The body of Suraj was found near a high-rise building at the academy. His relatives, however, alleged foul play and sought an inquiry.
Police registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem examination at the Pariyaram Medical College Hospital.
Suspended from the naval academy on disciplinary grounds, Suraj was re-admitted after the Kerala high court gave a verdict in his favour.
Suraj’s brother alleged that he was mentally tortured by seniors after he was re-admitted.
According to relatives, Suraj who joined the navy at a young age wanted to appear for the cadet’s examination. However, some senior officers allegedly denied him permission. When he approached the Kerala high court, the seniors took action against him on disciplinary grounds.
Later, the high court directed the authorities to allow him to appear for the test and he cleared it.
The navy is yet to react to the incident.
