The teenaged son of an NCP leader was arrested here after he lost control of the SUV he was driving, crushing three people and killing a three-year-old girl.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning.

Seventeen-year-old son of state NCP vice president was arrested with his driver Mohammed Amar Chaus, who was in the passenger seat.

"Appropriate action would be taken against the guilty," state NCP spokesperson Jitendra Awhad said even as the party washed its hands of the incident.

According to police, the SUV ran over Shirish Sonawane, 35, Sayali(5) and Navya(2).

It then hit a motorcycle and finally crashed against a wall, where it came to a stop.

The deceased, Navya and her three-year-old sister Sayali were on their way to a temple along with their uncle, Shirish Sonawane (35) when they were hit by the car near the Hudco TV Centre chowk, senior inspector Pratap Baviskar of Cidco police station said.

After the accident, an irate mob roughed up the suspects and tried to burn the car, but the police intervened and brought the situation under control.

Sonawane and his niece were admitted to a private hospital.

The minor boy was detained, while Chaus was arrested in this connection, police said, adding that the incident was captured on CCTV cameras.
