The land acquisition bill presented in the Lok Sabha by the Congress party will go a long way in protecting the rights and interests of farmers.

Dharamvir Goyat, party spokesperson and in charge of campaign committee of District Congress Committee (DCC), Hisar, said this while talking to newsmen here on Monday.

He said: "Now, the farmers will get relief from prolonged litigation to get their due. Party president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are responsible for the historic bill, as they have been raising their voice for the welfare of farmers."

Goyat said: "The Old Land Acquisition Act, 1894, will be replaced now and farmers will have their full say in the deal with industrialists or the government. The state government has already made a provision for royalty of land to be given to the landowner for 33 years. The participation of farmers will be ensured in the new projects to be established on their acquired land."

He claimed that other states have followed the land acquisition policy of Haryana.
