The police used batons to disperse the assaulters. According to the police, the youths had even tried to kidnap the girl who had come to the pub along with a friend.  In their bid to save the victim, two policemen sustained serious injuries.

“After rescuing the girl from the clutches of rogues, we sent her back home. We had to use force as about 30 drunken youths had started misbehaving with the girl. The youths even pelted stones at the police and two of our colleagues are in hospital in serious condition,” said Gurgaon police commissioner KK Sindhu.
According to the police, skull of one of the victims, constable Pawan Kumar, was fractured when a stone hit his head. There were 12 stitches on his head and his spinal cord is badly damaged, said the doctors treating him. The condition of the other victim, Ravi Kumar, is comparatively better, though he has more than six stitches on his head.

Ravi Kumar said, “There was a huge crowd and when we reached the spot the victim was crying for help. Though her friend tried to protect her, youths pounced upon her and started groping her. When we intervened, the youths started attacking us. Earlier, we managed to send some girls in a cab to Delhi .” “We tried to maintain law and order. Our first priority was to ensure safety of women,” said Sindhu.

According to a partygoer, the youths were angry as they did not get enough time to party after the police forced pubs in Sahara Mall to down their shutters by 12am. Besides, there was a huge crowd waiting outside the mall as well. “Guests had spent good money on pub tickets. When their party was cut short, the revellers vent their anger on the police,” said a youth.
