Pakistani human rights activist Ansar Burney is not the only one. India turns back nearly 2,000 foreign visitors every year, though they have valid visas.
Foreigners who have adverse notice against them or arrive with forged, damaged or expired passports or incomplete travel documents
are refused entry despite holding a valid visa, Minister of State in the Home Sriprakash Jaiswal told Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
He said the government did circulate details of foreigners who have come to adverse notice to Indian missions abroad so that they could accordingly decide on visa applications.
In 2007, immigration authorities refused entry to 2009 foreigners. In the first six months of this year, 1,020 foreigners have already been sent back from five airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Amritsar.
