At a time when the government is fighting a perception battle to come out clean from the 2G scam, President Pratibha Patil stressed on the country’s commitment to greater transparency and accountability in governance at the launch of international conference on corruption in New Delhi on
Wednesday.

Inaugurating the Seventh Regional Conference of the ADB-OECD Anti-Corruption Initiative for Asia and the Pacific Region on 'Building Multidisciplinary Frameworks to Combat Corruption', the President said India had an elaborate legal and institutional framework for preventing corruption in public services and was in the process of taking additional steps to the UN convention on corruption.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will speak on Thursday at the concluding session of this conference.

Minister of State for Personnel V Narayanasamy had earlier stressed on devising a global mechanism to enhance international cooperation in investigating corruption cases overseas.

“One of the important elements, in any anti-corruption framework, involving multiple jurisdictions, is the effectiveness of cooperation amongst agencies involved in common goal of punishing the guilty... The difficulties for jurisdiction, to act in a concerted and coordinated manner, may be many,” he added.
