Senior party leaders are coaching BJP councillors in Delhi how to deal with the media and the general public at a two-day workshop that started on Tuesday.

Ever since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken over power at the Centre, there has been a renewed focus on the party’s office bearers, ministers and representatives who deal with the media. Recently, the party organised a special training programme for its newly-elected MPs at Surajkund, Haryana, which was addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top leaders.

Tuesday’s programme was divided into five sessions addressed by the party’s national organisation general secretary Ramlal, Delhi BJP in-charge and MP Prabhat Jha, Union minister Nitin Gadkari and specialist of municipal corporation affairs Dharamrajan. All the three mayors, leaders of the Houses, chairpersons of the Standing Committees and councillors attended the workshop.

“Every councillor should be aware of the policies and the principles of the party. You are the first step of democratic system because most of the people contact you for local work,” said Jha in his inaugural address.

Ramlal stressed on interaction with the people. “We can win the hearts of the people by having a direct dialogue with them. Public contact is very essential for progress in political life. We should always work to connect the people with the party,” he said.

Dharamrajan and leader of the House in the South civic body Subhash Arya explained the rights and duties of the councillors under the Municipal Acts and suggested solutions of various problems.
