Two days after she died, allegedly after being subjected to torture by her in-laws, the family of a former Congress MLA’s daughter-in-law staged a protest outside a city hospital and demanded the death penalty for the ex-legislator and his family.

A dentist, Rekha, 27, was found dead in mysterious circumstances at her in-laws’ house in north Delhi’s Keshavpuram on Saturday afternoon — 11 months after she got married to the former Kamla Nagar MLA’s advocate son, 30-year-old Sudhanshu.

“Not only did they not inform the police on the day of the incident, they even tried to hide her death from us,” claimed her uncle Ved Prakash as he protested outside Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial hospital on Monday .

“While she apparently died on Saturday morning, they informed us only around 3pm. Two hours after that, we informed the police about the incident,” he added.

The police have already arrested the former MLA, his wife and son Sudhanshu and another daughter-in-law, Sushma, on charges of murder and dowry harassment.

Investigators are mulling the arrests of two others — the MLA’s elder son and younger daughter.

Police said a decision to constitute a medical board had already been taken and the post-mortem examination would be conducted on Tuesday.
