All for a man’s greed for an SUV as dowry, four people died in Bakhtawarpur village of outer Delhi’s Alipur. They all were shot in the head.

Sonu Gujjar, 28, killed his wife Poonam, 26, brother-in-law Tarun, 30, and father-in-law Bhopal Singh, 55, because they did not give him a car which had been allegedly promised to him as dowry in 2010. For the past four years, he had been pressuring his wife that she should tell her family to keep their promise of gifting him a car. But the news that his brother-in-law, who was going to get married on Friday, will get an SUV in dowry pushed him over the edge.

Sonu decided to avenge his ‘insult’ and he did so by arranging two guns and calling his wife to meet him near her house in Alipur. Tarun was busy preparing for his wedding and several relatives had arrived to celebrate the occasion. Bhopal Singh was busy arranging a feast.
In a matter of few minutes, it all went tragically haywire.

Poonam took Tarun along to meet Sonu, a few hundred metres away from her house. As Poonam went ahead to talk to Sonu, Tarun stayed back.

The couple talked for a while, after which Sonu got worked up and took out a pistol and shot Poonam in the head twice. Before Tarun could even realise what had happened, Sonu pumped two bullets in his head. Both victims died on the spot.

Now, it was Bhopal Singh’s turn. After killing his wife and brother-in-law, Sonu went to their house and found his father-in-law discussing with cooks the feast for his son’s marriage. He shot him twice. Bhopal collapsed and died on the spot.

After avenging what he perceived as an insult by his in-laws and his wife, Sonu tried to flee but was overpowered by the people who had gathered in the house for the marriage. Cornered, Sonu took both the pistols out and pointed them at his temples and pulled the trigger.

Police said Sonu’s in-laws had stopped entertaining him due to his repeated demands for a car. They said in fact, his wife too had did not pay heed to him when he tried to stop her from attending her brother’s marriage.

Sonu, a resident of Barola village in Noida, ran a shop and supplied packaged water to local shops. A case has been registered at the Alipur police station.
