Kerjiwal team booked en masse for protest

The Delhi Police have en masse booked Arvind Kejriwal’s supporters for various crimes, including three non-bailable offences, for the anti-graft protest that stalled Delhi.

Five separate criminal cases have been registered against India Against Corruption (IAC) members Kejriwal, Prashant Bhushan, Manish Sisodia, Gopal Rai, Kumar Vishwas, Neeraj and more than a thousand others at the Parliament Street and Tughlak Road Police Stations.

“There are hundreds, if not more than a thousand, persons who are being investigated and will be punished for disobeying section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, assaulting the police and contributing to the chaos,” said a senior police officer. “Since it isn’t possible to arrest every one of them, we have decided to get them prosecuted through the courts which will send them notices.”

“More than a dozen of our videographers have filmed the events. We have issued notices to four TV channels, seeking their footage. It will be scanned to identify the people who incited the crowd,” the officer said.

The presence of a total of 1,500 people on Tughlak Road has been recorded in three FIRs while the roles of 1,030 persons will be under the scanner for Sections 149, 332 and 353 of the Indian Penal Code at the Parliament Street Police Station for voluntarily causing hurt to public servants and applying criminal force against them. Both of these are non-bailable offences.
