In the last week of the second session of Parliament for the new NDA government, the notification for electing a deputy Speaker in the Lok Sabha was finally issued on Monday.

AIADMK’s M Thambidurai is set to become the deputy Speaker as the NDA government is opposed to giving the prestigious seat to the Congress. If any other party puts in their candidate, an election will be held on Wednesday.

The election of the deputy Speaker will also set the ball rolling for the long-pending seating arrangement of the MPs and the constitution of the standing committees.

AIADMK has 37 MPs in the Lok Sabha and is providing outside support to the NDA government. The move to appease the AIADMK comes in the backdrop of the party’s support to the government on different issues, especially in Rajya Sabha where the government is in a minority.
