Angry for not being served breakfast on time, a 25-year-old man stabbed his wife to death at northeast Delhi’s Seemapuri on Tuesday morning, the police said. The man, Gautam, was arrested soon after the incident.
According to the police, the incident took place around 8 am at their residence when Gautam asked his wife, Manju, 21, to serve him breakfast.
“Manju was apparently busy with other household chores and took time to serve him,” said a senior police officer.
“Angered at the delay, he stormed into the kitchen, took hold of a knife and stabbed her multiple times,” the officer added.
According to the police, the couple got married in 2012 and their neighbours claimed they used to have violent fights almost every day.
Gautam later told the police that he stabbed Manju on her neck and back. “She fell unconscious on the floor and Gautam got scared. He dragged her body to the terrace and wanted to throw it from the first floor of the building to make it look like suicide,” the officer said.
The couple’s neighbours, who heard the commotion, rushed to the spot and prevented him from throwing the body.
Someone called the police and Manju was rushed to the Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital where doctors pronounced her dead. Gautam was later arrested.
“Neighbours claimed that on Monday night too, they heard screams from the house. The couple always fought on petty issues, they said,” the officer added. A case of murder has been registered at Seemapuri police station.
