Paying water bills is now just a click away as the Delhi Jal Board launched its online bill payment facility on Friday.
Consumers can now log on to the DJB portal, view their details and the bill amount and make payment through credit cards, debit cards or net banking.
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, who inaugurated the facility at the Delhi Secretariat, welcomed the move.
"We are the highest per capita consumers of water with 223 litres per capita every day. So a hassle-free water system- one a par with the 21st century - was required for the consumers," she said.
The chief minister pointed out that customer complaints - the number is expected to come down once this system is fully functional - will be easily addressed through the online system.
"This initiative was taken by the board as part of its plan to develop the revenue management system. It will improve cash flows on account of timely receipt of payment and will help reduction in administrative resources required for payment collection," a Jal board official said.
Thirty seven e-kiosks - where a consumer can physically go and pay water bills -have been installed at zonal offices and collection centres of the board across the city.
