On the 11th anniversary of the attack on Parliament, the Lok Sabha on Wednesday witnessed repeated disruptions over demands by BJP and Shiv Sena for the immediate hanging of Afzal Guru.

Uproar broke out shortly after the House paid homage to the martyrs of the 2001 attack. BJP members started raising slogans: "Afzal Guru to phansi do" (Hang Afzal Guru).
Meanwhile, steel minister Beni Prasad Verma found himself in the midst of another controversy by suggesting a life-term for Guru. He promptly withdrew his remark after his party colleagues, including Satyavrata Chaturvedi, said opinions expressed by the minister "were his personal views".
