Two first year Delhi University students were drugged and raped in outer Delhi allegedly by their two friends, who had asked them out on the pretext of a party.
One of the accused, identified as Vikram Kumar alias Vicky, 23, was arrested late Saturday. His friend, Sunil Kumar, 24, is one the run. The girls, residents of Bawana in northwest Delhi, go to the same college and are BA students, a police officer said. The two men, both dropouts, live in their locality and had befriended them a few months ago, he said.
On Friday, Vikram called up one of the girls and invited the two for a get-together. The girls were told to be at a certain place in Bawana from where he picked them up, said the police.
“They left for Kanjhawala and on the way the two men offered the girls cold drinks laced with sedatives,” the officer said. They took the girls, who complained of feeling dizzy, to a garage owned by a friend in Kanjhawala in outer Delhi and took turns to rape them.
Garage owner Ajit Singh, a friend of Vikram, has been arrested for abetting the crime, police said The two men dropped the girls at their homes, warning them against informing their parents or going to the police, the officer said. The girls immediately confided in their parents, who approached the police.
Medical examination confirmed rape. A case of illegal confinement was also lodged and police parties conducted raids at a number of places. “A tip-off led to Vikram’s arrest but Kumar managed to evade the police,” said the officer.
