The Congress has sought an explanation from its Kurukshetra MP Naveen Jindal for extending support to Khap panchayats.
“I have sought an explanation from him,” party general secretary in-charge of Haryana Prithviraj Chavan said.
Jindal, on his part, said he had not supported any wrongdoing of the Khaps and had gone to the mahapanchayat to meet his constituents. “I am vehemently opposed to honour killings or any other action that is against the law of the land. What is morally incorrect cannot be correct politically under any circumstances,” Jindal said, claiming that he had been misquoted in a section of the media.
It is understood that he has also clarified his stand to the party leadership. With his explanation, Congress sources said the “chapter stands closed as of now”.
