The sorrow of losing the two most important women in his life within months of each other and in a similar way proved too much for Ankit Sharma on Saturday afternoon.

Shortly after having escorted his 52-year-old mother Anuradha's body to Punjabi Bagh cremation ground after post-mortem examination and submitting it to the blazing recesses of the ceremonial pyre, Ankit wailed before fainting with grief around 3pm.

It was a small gathering - a handful of family members and close relatives in attendance - and nothing but tears all around. No one spoke as the flames on her pyre gradually died down.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police said they were yet to question either Gopal Goyal Kanda or his employee Aruna Chaddha whose alleged harassment Anuradha, like her daughter Geetika Sharma just six months before her, had blamed for her death.

Police are yet to even ascertain what triggered Anuradha's decision to kill herself.

"We are waiting to first question the grieving family before we go on to question Kanda and Chaddha," said an officer investigating the case. He said the duo would probably be questioned at Rohini Jail on Monday.

On Friday evening, Anuradha Sharma was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the same room where her daughter had chosen to hang herself in early August last year.

Anuradha, police said, had left behind a suicide note in which she had stated that she was in depression because of the death of her daughter. She also said that she was taking the extreme step because her family was being harassed.

"In her suicide note, Anuradha too named former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda and his employee Aruna Chaddha - the same duo that Geetika had held responsible for her suicide," said the officer. He also said that she had asked her son Ankit to "be strong" in the same note in addition to alleging that she and her family were being harassed by Kanda's aides.

Police said they were in the process of analysing the call details of both Kanda's and Chaddha's associates and family members to ascertain whether they had attempted to establish contact with Geetika's family.
