"Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been imposed near the India Gate and no gathering would be allowed there," a senior police officer said.

Following the imposition of prohibitory orders, India Gate was vacated in the afternoon and vendors were asked to leave the area.

The Aam Aadmi Party and several NGOs had called the people to gather at the India Gate for a candlelight march in the evening.
