Two Punjab policemen were caught on camera beating up a 22-year-old woman and her old father with a baton on a road in Tarn Taran on Monday.

The reason? The police alleged the family of the girl had misbehaved with the cops.

The girl’s family, however, claimed that someone passed a lewd remark at her during a wedding function and soon her father and brother got into an altercation with him. And when the police came, they started beating the girl and her family.

Once the video was flashed on national TV channels, two constables were suspended.

Tarn Taran SSP KS Dhillon told HT, “The girl and her family had claimed that some taxi driver teased the girl. Later when the girl’s father and brother objected, a brawl started between the two parties. Our police party reached to defuse the situation, but some persons of the girl’s family misbehaved with the policemen. This led to the incident.”

“Certainly beating up a girl by policemen was unfortunate. An SP rank officer has been asked to probe the matter and submit his report in seven days.”
