The Delhi University has finally ended the suspense over the fate of the undergraduate students who had failed in their first year under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP).

All such students will be given fresh admissions in supernumerary seats in the same course and college as last year. In a notification issued by the university last week, it has been clarified that the admissions will be treated as fresh. The year of admission will be treated as 2014-15.

The students who opted for honours courses will be given the same option this year as well.

The past month has been stressful for all those who failed as FYUP was scrapped and there was no clarity about their status.

“We had been running from pillar to post to get any information about our status. The university’s notification has finally put an end to our anxiety,” said a student.

But the problems have not yet ended.

Some colleges had started new honours courses under FYUP but after the programme was scrapped they had to do away with these courses as well. These students cannot, therefore, pursue the same honours course since it is not being offered anymore and may have to study the courses that the college now offers.

“Students who failed in honours courses in these colleges have no idea what is going to happen to them. They had taken admission in an honours course and may have to now study BA, B Com or B Sc Programme. The university notification does not speak about them at all,” said a senior university official.

The colleges are now planning to write to the university to get more clarity on this issue.
