Several roads in Delhi are out of bounds for traffic on Thursday due to the dress rehearsal of the Republic Day parade, resulting in traffic jams all over the Capital.

The parade rehearsal started at around 9:50pm from Vijay Chowk and moved towards Red Fort Ground. The parade is planned to pass through Rajpath, India Gate, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhash Marg.

Therefore, Vijay Chowk, India Gate, Red Fort ground, Rajpath, Rafi Marg, Janpath, Mansingh Road, C-Hexagon, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Subahash Marg are out of bounds for the general public.  As these roads are closed, most of the places in central Delhi are witnessing long traffic jams.

In east Delhi, the area around Dharamshila Hospital is witnessing traffic jams. The roads between Dhaula Kuan and Vasant Vihar in South Delhi are also facing the problem. However, the reason for slow traffic in these two areas was not immediately clear.

Commuters had to wait for more than 15 minutes to cross a 500 meters stretch on Sikander road.

"I was caught unaware in the traffic. I had to wait for around 20 minutes near Mandi House metro station due to traffic jams, said Amrit Kumar, a commuter.

Traffic problems in the Capital have persisted over the past few days, in large part due to the AAP dharna and inclement weather. The Delhi Traffic Police has been notifying the public as well as keeping some roads closed.

On January 20, the traffic police advised people to avoid driving on R/A Krishi Bhavan owing to the AAP protests. They also closed Parliament Marg and said that Ashoka Road and Baba Kharak Singh Marg in central Delhi would experience heavy traffic. Traffic also lagged at Maa Anadmai Marg and C Lal Chowk towards Crown Plaza.

On January 21, the traffic police closed Rajendra Prasad Road, Rafi Marg, Raisina Road and Red Cross Road.
