Two men murdered their roommate because he stole and later publicised the contact details of a woman with whom the duo used to engage in ‘sex chats’, police said on Sunday. The two have been arrested.
The two have been identified as Devender, 20, and Hevbi Lal, 24. Both are from a village in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district and worked at different card-printing units in the Capital. They slit their roommate and friend Rajpal’s throat and dumped his body at Kamla Market’s Ramlila Grounds Thursday night, said Devesh Chandra Shrivastava, additional commissioner of police (central).
“Initially, apart from a pool of blood near the spot, the only other clue to his identity was a three-letter ‘RAJ’ tattooed his right arm,” Shrivsatava added. Later, the police also found the victim’s mobile phone, which had been switched off.
Local investigation helped the police identify the victim as one Rajpal which led them to a marriage card printing unit on Asaf Ali Road, where he used to work.
Here, police found a witness who told them that he had seen the victim consuming liquor with Lal and one Vijali Paswan around 9pm on the night of November 22. The trio then left the factory. “Around midnight, the same witness saw Lal, Paswan and Devender talking in hushed tones. Rajpal was nowhere to be seen,” Shrivsatava said.
Soon, two of the three men were nabbed and, during questioning, they confessed to the murder. The police are still looking for Paswan.
During interrogation, Lal and Devender told the police that they used to have sexually explicit chats with a woman, based back home. “Rajpal stole her number from Lal’s mobile phone and started talking with her. He even distributed her number to some of his other friends and also told the woman that Lal was married with two children,” said Shrivastava. What further incensed Devender was the fact that Rajpal, who was a good worker, had refused to work at his factory and wanted to switch jobs - which would have translated into a substantial financial loss to the former, police said.
So, they decided to kill Rajpal. “When Rajpal was inebriated under the influence of alcohol, they took him to Shastri Park on Asaf Ali Road where Paswan and Lal caught hold of his limbs while Devender slit his throat,” Shrivastava added.
